Before we tell you how to make the best Bloody Mary we did want to give you some background on one of the world's oldest mixed drinks.
So when was the Bloody Mary Invented? This tends to change a lot but per A Couple of Cooks "The Bloody Mary cocktail was invented in the 1920’s, most likely at the New York Bar in Paris (where other famous cocktails were born, like the French 75 and Between the Sheets). There are lots of origin stories for the cocktail and the name Bloody Mary. Some people say it’s named after Queen Mary I of England, or Mary Pickford, a movie star back in the day. Whatever the case, this combination of tomato juice and vodka has become one of the most famous brunch cocktails in the world."
Did you know that Food & Wine named it one of the most complicated cocktails? “It’s a very complicated drink,” said Neil C. Da Costa, Ph.D., an expert on the chemical analysis of flavors at International Flavors & Fragrances, Inc. “It covers almost the entire range of human taste sensations—sweet, salty, sour and umami or savory—but not bitter.”
Now that you know some good talking points for your next brunch party let's make some Bloody's. Enjoy.
Ingredients
-
10 oz STOUT Bloody Mary Blend
-
STOUT All Purpose Seasoinng & Rim Salt
2 oz Vodka
2 Ripe Limes
1 Ripe Lemon
Celery
Pickles
2 dashes of tabasco
Directions
Rim Salt the glasses
Could be the most important part of the Bloody Mary and always your first step. Slice limes into wedges. Take lime slices and run wedges around highball glasses. Once the glass rims are sticky dip them into the STOUT Rim Salt and set aside.
Create Mixture
Per A Couple Cooks, The best way to make a Bloody Mary is not shaking or stirring it with ice, like you would with a normal drink. ... Simply mix the mixture without ice, then serve it over ice. This results in the perfect, thick consistency and flavor. Strain and if time, chill.
That being said, take out a cocktail mixer and add 4 oz STOUT Bloody Mary, 2 oz Vodka, fresh lemon juice and shake. Once shaken set aside.
Garnish the Bloody Mary's & Add Mixture
Take the glasses you rimed and add ice to them. Once the rimmed glasses have ice add your celery stalk, pickles, olives, lemon wedge, lime wedge and other desired garnishes.
We recommend adding the garnishes before pouring the mixture because if not it tends to get messy.
Once garnished add mixture from shaker and enjoy!
